5.0 out of 5 stars Finally-A wonderful coffeemaker, January 9, 2010
This review is from: Jura-Capresso Specialty Coffee Makers MG 600, Stainless Steel/Black Accents (Kitchen)
I purchased a capresso coffemaker in the 1990's and loved it. However it was used so much that it wore out. It lasted about 10 years. However I could never find one to replace it that I liked. Well now Capresso has finally come up with a model that is better than the one I used to own. It makes a wonderful HOT cup of coffee and it tastes so great! It's very easy to use, especially filling the tank and I just love it. Thank you Capresso.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot Coffee, February 25, 2010
This review is from: Jura-Capresso Specialty Coffee Makers MG 600, Stainless Steel/Black Accents (Kitchen)
Looks nice on the kitchen counter. Fairly easy to fill. Removable filter holder. Comes with a gold filter or you can use #4 paper cone filters. Carafe has comfortable handle and pours easily. Construction quality seems good. Replacement carafe and other parts available from Capresso. Replaceable water filters available. Makes great HOT coffee. Worth the money....

Follow up December 2010: Still enjoying the coffee maker. I stll have problems with the replaceable water filters -- they make the coffee maker spit and leak -- the filters seem to stop up after a week or two. I went back to pouring in filtered water from a Brita carafe. Finally: used coffee grounds make great garden fertilizer!

3.0 out of 5 stars They don't make them like they used to, May 23, 2010

This review is from: Jura-Capresso Specialty Coffee Makers MG 600, Stainless Steel/Black Accents (Kitchen)
I bought this one after a long search to replace my Braun FlavorSelect that made an awesome cup of coffee and had no weird problems, but lasted for 8 years and then died. I first bought a Bunn and a Cuisinart and literally gave them away to Salvation Army because they didn't do the one and only thing a coffeemaker should do - that's to make a good cup of coffee.
Yes, the reviewers are right, this unit makes a great cup of HOT coffee, but now hear the rest... I exchanged one to find that it's a design flaw and not a defect of the first unit. Toward the end of the brewing cycle water caught between the 2 filter holders streams down the right side of the pot and onto the burner sizzling. That's very bad for the burner and will distroy it in no time. The second problem is that it literally brings the coffee to a simmering boil immediately after it's done brewing. It's easiest to see when the coffeemaker is brand new and you brew water 1st time to clean the unit from the factory... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Way to Start making Good Coffee, November 26, 2007

I like this product. It is inexpensive, has filters that can be found anywhere, and provides real coffee taste in instant coffee quantities and time. This is great for me, because I do not drink more than 1 cup at a time, and making any more would just waste coffee time and money.

This cone allows you to come up with your own perfect brewing recipe without wasting pounds and pounds of coffee. The way the beans are roasted, the quality of those beans, the amount of coffee grounds you use and how they're ground, the temperature of the water: all of these have a bearing on the taste of your coffee.

First, the water:
The industry standard for the ideal cup of coffee begins with a water temperature of 195-205 degrees. This is not quite boiling, which is why the "Monsieur Brew" brands make such bad coffee. Brewing with water at the boiling point over-extracts the beans, making for an overly bitter-tasting result.
Use a food thermometer to find this... Read more

Good product and improved over previous design...open at bottom so you can view how full the cup is getting so no overflow. New handle design is also an improvement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Add coffee to water, stir, then pour into filter, April 19, 2011
This review is from: Melitta Ready Set Joe Single Cup Coffee Brewer (Kitchen)
I've been using the Melitta system for over 20 years, and about 5 years ago starting using a new technique, which I like better. So here it is.
First, I fill my coffee cup with hot tap water to preheat it. Then fill the Melitta brew cone with a #4 filter, and wet it down with hot tap water. I like the over size # 4 filters, it keeps grounds from going down the side of the filter using this technique.

Next, I heat room temperature spring water in a Pyrex glass measuring cup, using a microwave. If you measure the water, you can easily get the right microwave time to produce 185 F degrees. For me, it's about 1:50 for 8 oz. You want to avoid adding the coffee to boiling (212 F) water, it can make the coffee taste bitter. If it boils, let it cool for 60 seconds or so.

Then, I add the coffee, measured with a scooper, directly into the Pyrex cup full of hot water, and stir vigorously for 10-15 seconds. If you want, you can wait a little longer, depends on... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Right product, received on-time..., May 31, 2008

This review is from: Cuisinart DCC-RWF-6PK Charcoal Water Filters, 2 Year Supply, Includes 6 DCC-RWF packages. 2 Filters
If you own a Cuisinart DGB-600BC Grind and Brew, Brushed Chrome or the Cuisinart DGB-550BK Grind-and-Brew 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, you will quickly realize the secret to the great coffee brewed is the water filter. Unfortunately, the local big box stores just don't carry these necessary filters. Searching on-line, the best combination deal was found with these filters, i.e. quantity = 12 (two-years of usage if you change every two months) and price (this is the best price for the quantity/shipping that I found). Unlike other vendors, this one delivered as scheduled.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good price on filters, but 20 lbs to ship?, January 28, 2009
This review is from: Cuisinart DCC-RWF-6PK Charcoal Water Filters, 2 Year Supply, Includes 6 DCC-RWF packages. 2 Filters
When comparitive shopping I come to Amazon.com quite a bit and buy through them very often.
Buying these filters in larger quantities does gives a better price per filter. Look above and you will see the "item" described as 20 lbs for shipping. These are EXTREMELY light.
The weight is inflated and charges more than actual for shipping. (Who knows if they meant to enter 2 lbs or 20 lbs?? Could be accidental or on purpose.) I'm in the process of ordering a set of 12 filters somewhere else for about $2 more, but shipping is about $14 less.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cuisinart Charcoal Filters, August 25, 2008
These built-in filters really do help keep the coffee tasting fresh and clean. We'd left the original filter in the machine for far too long, and the addition of a new, clean filter has made a huge difference - I wouldn't have believed it without experiencing the difference. The 2-year supply is a great deal, too.
