I cannot speak to the reliability of this machine yet as I have only owned it for about 3 weeks. In the time I have owned it I have read the owners manual and experimented with the many settings available to the user. It took me a few days trial and error to achieve a cup of coffee to my liking. The setting adjustments are not intuitive as far as I'm concerned. I'm a Process Engineer by trade so I knew how to arrive at the settings I needed. I recommend anyone who buys this machine be patient, and use methodical steps to arrive at the coffee flavor you seek. I now have my KM7000 brewing a good tasting 15 ounce cup of coffee for me twice a day. It did take some experimentation to achieve. I use dark, oily type arabica beans, a Zambia Blend (Krups warns against using oily beans, but hey, the oily beans I use produce the coffee that taste good to me). Coffee is good and the machine is attractive and convenient to use. Previous review criticized the pouring from the carafe, which is true. The solution is to pour very slowly, which is difficult with a full pot of coffee. Another Krups we have, has the same design flaw. I also had trouble with getting the filter holder in; it is tricky and requires one to put it in place with the handle up, in the position you would carry it to the sink, and once the plastic base is in place, lowering the handle to a horizontal position, parallel to the top of the filter holder. I found that I was unable to put the filter holder into its base with the handle already down; it just wouldn't fit in my case, and I suspect, all cases. I do have one problem/criticism, and that involves the retention of already ground coffee in the chute that leads to the dropoff from the grinder to the filter. However,the machine has a few drawbacks. First of all, the pot leaks when you pour and in order not to spill, you are forced to touch the rim of the pot to your cup. Not a big deal. Then after only a week of use, the plastic filter holder has trouble fitting back into its place and i worry it will begin to leak. Another problem is that this machine is set in 24 hr time and u cannot change it;thus when u want to set it in the morning, u have to do a lot of figuring. But in the end, burning hot water --descaled with a special filter and tasting great--comes out over freshly ground beans and the taste is heavenly. the best coffee i have had in years--far better than Starbucks for sure. So, i would reccomend that for the same amount of money, you buy the grinder and the pot separately and if the combo turns out to be flimsy, u will only have to... Read more |
